Vittore Carpaccio (c. 1465 – c. 1526)

Vittore Carpaccio was an Italian artist of the Venetian school. He studied painting under the tutelage of Gentile Bellini. Carpaccio is best known for a series of 9 large canvases, named, “The Legend of St Ursula”, he began this work in 1490 and it was completed in 1496. Two of Carpaccio’s main influences were, Antonello da Messina and early Netherlandish art.
