Leandro Bassano, also known as, Leandro dal Ponte (1557 – 1622)
Leandro Bassano was an Italian artist from Bassano del Grappa, he was the third son of Jacopo Bassano. His older brother, Francesco ran the Venetian side of the family workshop until he committed suicide in 1592. Leandro then, took over and became the main portrait painter of the family. Leandro grew in popularity and was given a knighthood by the Doge of Venice in 1595, after this, he would sometimes add “Eques”, (Knight) to his signature.
