Francesco Bassano the Younger, also known as, Francesco Giambattista da Ponte (1549 – 1592)

Francesco Bassano the Younger was an Italian artist of the Renaissance movement. He was the eldest son of Jacopo Bassano and the grandson of Francesco da Ponte the Elder. He studied and worked with his father and three brothers at the Bassano family workshop. Bassano the Younger was a hypochondriac and may have suffered from depression. A few months after his father’s death in 1592, he became so distressed, he committed suicide by jumping out of a window.
