Giovanni Bellini (c. 1426 – 1516)

Giovanni Bellini was an Italian artist of the Renaissance period. He is credited with radically changing Venetian art by applying a more sensual approach with the use of rich colours, achieved through the use of slow drying oil paints, as opposed to tempera. He is possibly the most famous of the Bellini family today, although his brother, Gentile and father, Jacopo were more highly regarded in their day. Giovanni can include Titian and Giorgione among his pupils.
