William Bradford (1823 – 1892)
William Bradford was an American photographer, explorer and romanticist artist (romanticism or the romantic era, was an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that originated in Europe towards the end of the 18th century). He was originally from Fairhaven, near New Bedford in Massachusetts. He painted seascapes and many of them illustrate scenes of the ships in New Bedford Harbour. In 1858, his painting, entitled, “New Bedford Harbor at Sunset”, was included in Albert Bierstadt’s ground-breaking, New Bedford Art Exhibition.
