William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825 – 1905)
William-Adolphe Bouguereau was a French academic artist, (academic art, or academicism, or even, academism, is a style of art, sculpture or architecture, influenced by European academies of art). Bouguereau produced exquisitely realistic genre works using mythological themes, he also created contemporary interpretations of classical scenes. He liked to paint human female subjects in various situations and poses, giving them a sense of purity. He gained popularity in his homeland and in the USA and was awarded numerous accolades. During his lifetime, Bouguereau was known to have produced more than 800 completed artworks, although many of them appear to have been lost.
