Pierre-Auguste Cot (1837 – 1883)
Pierre-Auguste Cot was a French Academic artist, born in Bédarieux, Hérault in southern France. Cot started his training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse before moving to Paris where he studied under Alexandre Cabanel, Léon Cogniet and William-Adolphe Bouguereau. Throughout the 1860s and 1870s, Cot raised his artistic profile through exhibiting at the annual Salon where he went on to win several medals for his portraits, historical, mythological and allegorical works.
