Marie Bashkirtseff, birth name, Maria Konstantinovna Bashkirtseva (1858 – 1884)
Marie Bashkirtseff was a Russian diarist, artist and sculptor. Her parents separated when she was very young and she spent most of her time travelling abroad with her mother. They eventually settled in Paris where Marie studied art at the Robert Fleury studio and the Académie Julian. Among her best Known artworks are, “The Meeting” (1884) and, “In the Studio” (1881). Bashkirtseff and artist, Jules Bastien-Lepage were good friends and he had an influence on her work.
