Jules Bastien-Lepage (1848 – 1884)
Jules Bastien-Lepage was a French artist who is associated with the beginning of the naturalism style of painting, which emerged from the latter part of the Realist movement. In 1867, he went to Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and in 1868, he was accepted into the workshop of Alexandre Cabanel. Bastien-Lepage's work is comparable to Gustave Courbet and Jean-François Millet.
