Léon François Comerre (1850 – 1916)
Léon François Comerre was a French artist who painted in the academic style. He was born in Trélon in the Département du Nord but moved to Lille with his family in 1853. He showed an interest in art at an early age and became a pupil of the artist and teacher, Alphonse Colas at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille. After receiving a grant from the Département du Nord, Comerre was able to travel to Paris and continue his studies at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, under the tutelage of Alexandre Cabanel. Comerre was famous for his portraits of attractive women and paintings of the Orient.
