Karl Briullov, or, Karl Pavlovich Bryullov, sometimes spelt, Briuloff (1799 – 1852)

Karl Briullov original name, Charles Bruleau, known to his friends as, The Great Karl, was a Russian artist. He was considered to be a major player in the transition from Russian Neo-Classicism to Romanticism. He was particularly famous for his genre, religious and portrait paintings. Briullov’s most famous work is, “Last Day of Pompeii”.
