Vladimir Borovikovsky, full name, Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky (1757 – 1825)
Vladimir Borovikovsky was a Russian artist of Ukrainian origin, he had a huge influence on portrait painting in the Russian Empire at the turn of the 19th century. In 1795 he was appointed an academician (a full member of an artistic, literary, engineering or scientific, national academy). He produced around 500 portraits from his studio during his career and had assistants who often painted the less significant parts of a painting. His sitters included generals, aristocrats and members of the imperial family.
