Sir George Clausen RA (1852 – 1944)
Sir George Clausen was an English artist, etcher and printer from London, he may have inherited his interest in art from his father who was a decorative painter with Danish connections. Clausen, who worked in several mediums including oils and watercolour, mainly painted landscapes and scenes of rural life, paying close attention to the reactions of light in his compositions and would often set his figures against the sun. Between 1904 and 1906, he was professor of painting at the Royal Academy and in 1927, he received a knighthood.
