Rosa Bonheur, birth name, Marie-Rosalie Bonheur (1822 – 1899)

Rosa Bonheur was a French Realist painter and sculptor. She was famous for her meticulously detailed paintings, depicting animals and has a string of instantly recognisable works. She was trained in her chosen field by her father, Raymond Bonheur, an art teacher. Rosa was considered by many, to be the most eminent female artist of the 19th century.
