Pedro Berruguete (1450 – 1504)
Pedro Berruguete was a Spanish artist, his work was considered to be transitional, between the Gothic and Renaissance styles by his fellow countrymen. In 1480, it is believed that he travelled to Urbino in Italy and worked in the court of Federico III da Montefeltro, but it is not known for certain. The portrait, “Prince Federico da Montefeltro and His Son”, has been attributed to Berruguete, although some believe, it was painted by the Flemish artist, Justus van Gent who happened to be in Urbino at that time. Pedro was the father of sculptor, Alonso Berruguete who was considered to be the most prominent sculptor of the Spanish Renaissance.
