Mary Cassatt, or, Mary Stevenson Cassatt (1844 – 1926)
Mary Cassatt was an American artist and printmaker, born in Allegheny City in Pennsylvania. In 1861, she began studying art at the Pennsylvania Academy, one of the few schools that allowed women to join. In 1866, Mary travelled through Europe, finally settling in France where she exhibited her art with the Impressionists, thanks to her good friend Edgar Degas. Cassatt often produced artwork, depicting women and mothers with their children.
