Károly Brocky, also known as, Charles Brocky (1807 – 1855)
Károly Brocky was a Hungarian artist, the son of a hairdresser who died whilst Károly was still young. To make a living, Brocky joined a group of itinerant actors. After many twists and turns in his life, he was placed in a free drawing school in Vienna. From Vienna, he moved to Paris where he studied at the, École du Louvre. He visited London when he was about 30 years old and settled there, contributing works to the Royal Academy of Arts, his first one was in 1839. Brocky was known for his portrait paintings, ideal subjects (works that are based on an artist’s perceptions of different themes), and miniatures on ivory.
