Joseph Blackburn, also known as, Jonathan Blackburn (died 1787)
Joseph Blackburn was an English portrait artist who worked mainly in Bermuda and colonial America. He had many important and influential, American families among his customers and patrons. There is some confusion over the dates of Blackburn’s birth and death. It is most widely believed that he died in 1778, although other sources suggest it was 1774. It is estimated that he was born in 1730 but there are those who do not agree. In 2015, it was declared that Blackburn’s burial took place in Worcester in 1787, according to details recovered from archives in Worcestershire.
