Jacob van Campen (1596 – 1657)

Jacob van Campen was a Dutch architect and painter of the Dutch Golden Age. He was born into a wealthy, noble family in Haarlem which left him with nothing much to do, so he began painting as a pastime. In 1614, he became a member of Haarlem’s Guild of Saint Luke, where artists and architects were members. He studied art under the tutelage of Frans de Grebber.
