*Ivan Aivazovsky, or, Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, baptised, Hovhannes Aivazian (1817 – 1900) Ivan Aivazovsky* was a Russian-Armenian artist who was considered to be one of the greatest Russian marine masters of his time. During a career spanning almost 60 years, he produced around 6,000 paintings. Most of his works were seascapes, although he did paint battle scenes, topical Armenian subjects and portraits. Aivazovsky was also greatly admired outside of Russia, he held exhibitions in Europe and the USA. These days, most of his artworks are located in Russian, Ukrainian and Armenian museums, although some have made their way into private collections.
