Hendrick de Clerck (c. 1560 – 1630)
Hendrick de Clerck was a Flemish artist who spent the greater part of his successful career in Brussels. He was taught to paint by Marten de Vos and artistically, painted in the late Mannerist style. De Clerck’s exact date of birth is not known but it has been established that he was employed by Archduke Ernest, as court painter in 1594. He continued to hold this position after Ernest’s death for the Archdukes, Albert and Isabella.
