Hendrick Avercamp (1585 – 1634)

Hendrick Avercamp was a Dutch artist, born in Amsterdam. In 1608, he moved to the city of Kampen, where he painted colourful winter scenes of the Netherlands, particularly of people skating on frozen lakes. Hendrick was both deaf and mute and was known as, “de stomme van Kampen”, (the mute of Kampen).
