Heinrich Bürkel (1802 – 1869)

Heinrich Bürkel was a German artist who specialised in landscapes and genre subjects. At the age of twenty, he started learning his artistry among friends in Munich, Schleissheim and the Netherlands and went on to paint military subjects, cattle scenes and landscapes, particularly winter views. Bürkel became a popular artist, owing to his imaginative and comical compositions. He was also made an honorary member of the Academies of Munich, Dresden and Vienna.
