Giuseppe Arcimboldo, or, Arcimboldi (1526 – 1593)
Giuseppe Arcimboldo was an Italian artist who painted striking and innovative portrait heads, consisting of objects such as fruit, vegetables, fish, flowers and books. He started his career, designing stained glass, and painting frescoes at local cathedrals when he was only 21 years old. Later, he became the court portrait artist to several "Holy Roman Emperors" including Ferdinand I, in the year 1562.
Holy Roman Emperor
The Holy Roman Emperor, officially known as the Emperor of the Romans, or, the German-Roman Emperor, was the ruler of the Holy Roman Empire. This position was almost always held alongside the title of, "King of Germany", this was the case from the beginning of the 12th century, right through to the end of the 18th century.
