Giovanni Francesco Caroto, or, Carotis (1480 – c. 1555 )

Giovanni Francesco Caroto was an Italian Renaissance artist, born in Verona. He started his training under Liberale da Verona and adopted a similar style. Later, when he met Andrea Mantegna in Mantua, his influence on Caroto lead to a modification in the way he worked. Caroto also adopted ideas from Titian, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci. Mannerist painter, Paolo Veronese was a famous pupil of Caroto.
