George Catlin (1796 – 1872)

George Catlin was an American adventurer, printer, writer and artist, born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He travelled to the American West, five times during the 1830s, where he painted many portraits of the Native American Indians, he also produced depictions of them in their natural surroundings. Catlin published a series of books, recounting his travels among the peoples of America.
