Gaspard de Crayer (1584 – 1669)
Gaspard de Crayer was a Flemish draughtsman and artist, born in Antwerp and known for his Catholic Reformation alterpieces and his portraits. He may have been a pupil of Raphael Coxcie for a while before becoming painter to the Governor of the Low Countries in Brussels where he was employed in the churches and public buildings there. In 1607, He became a master at the Brussels Guild of St Luke and was made a dean of the Guild from 1611 to 1616. Crayer was one of the earliest and most ardent followers of the style of Peter Paul Rubens.
