Francis Cadell, full name, Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell (1883 – 1937)
Francis Cadell was a Scottish artist, born in Edinburgh, and one of the four “Scottish Colourist” painters. He was well known for his representations of the elegant, “New Town” interiors and for his work on the island of Iona.
The New Town is the name given to a central area of Edinburgh that has preserved most of its fine, neo-classical and Georgian period architecture, it is a superb example of urban planning. It was built in sections, which started in the year, 1767, it was completed in around 1850.
