Eugène Louis Boudin (1824 – 1898)

Eugène Louis Boudin was a French landscape artist who mostly painted marine subjects and was considered an expert in his field. He was greatly influenced by the 17th century Dutch masters. Later, he met, Dutch artist, Johan Jongkind who was also a marine artist and was already, much admired in French artistic circles. Jongkind encouraged Boudin to paint outdoors and he became one of the first Frenchmen to do so. In around 1857, Boudin met a very young, Claude Monet and convinced him to become a landscape painter, they became lifelong friends and Monet later, acknowledged Boudin’s early influence on him.
