Emil Carlsen, full name, Soren Emil Carlsen (1853 – 1932)
Emil Carlsen was an American Impressionist artist who emigrated to the USA, from Denmark. He was originally known for his still-life paintings but later, expanded his range of subjects to include landscapes and seascapes. He won many accolades in American art during his career, and was a member of the National Academy of Design, (an honorary association of American artists). He was also, a reputable teacher in the cities of Chicago, San Francisco and New York.
