Edward Burne-Jones, or, Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, 1st Baronet (1833 – 1898)
Edward Burne-Jones was an English artist and designer. He was closely linked to the latter stages of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Burne-Jones was instrumental in the resurgence of traditional stained-glass art in Britain, his works include windows in cathedrals and churches throughout England. He later formed a company, creating furnishings and decorative arts, alongside friends, such as, William Morris, the company was called, Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. In 1877, Burne-Jones was urged to exhibit eight oil paintings at the newly founded Grosvenor Gallery, (a rival to the Royal Academy). The timing was perfect and he became a star of the new, Aesthetic movement. Burne-Jones worked in crafts, encompassing the design of ceramic tiles, jewellery, tapestries and mosaics.
