Carl Bloch, full name, Carl Heinrich Bloch (1834 – 1890)
Carl Bloch was a Danish artist, he was born in Copenhagen and studied there, at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. His early works featured rural settings of everyday life. In 1859, he moved to Italy where he established his historical, religious style. During a brief visit to the Netherlands, he became familiar with the work of Rembrandt which influenced him greatly.
