Auguste Couder, full name, Louis-Charles-Auguste Couder (1789/90 – 1873)
Auguste Couder was a French history painter. He studied under Jean-Baptiste Regnault and Jacques-Louis David. In 1814, he exhibited for the first time, at the Paris Salon and in 1817, His painting, “The Levite of Ephraim”, received critical acclaim. In 1818, he was commissioned to decorate the vaulted ceiling of the vestibule to the Galerie d’Apollon, in the Louvre.
