Alexandre Calame (1810 – 1864)
Alexandre Calame was a Swiss draughtsman, printmaker and landscape artist, associated with the Düsseldorf School. He studied under François Diday in Geneva, later spending time in Paris, the Netherlands, Düsseldorf, Italy and London. In spite of his fragile health, he managed to spend his summers painting in the mountains of the Bernese Oberland and in central Switzerland.
