Albert Anker, or, Albrecht Samuel Anker (1831 – 1910)

Albert Anker was a Swiss artist and illustrator, often referred to as the national painter of Switzerland, this was due to his popular depictions of 19th century Swiss village life. One of his most moving paintings is that of his eldest son, Ruedi, who died in 1869 at the tender age of 2 years. Albert painted him on his death bed.
