Agnolo di Cosimo, better known as, Agnolo Bronzino (1503 – 1572)

Agnolo Bronzino was an Italian artist of the Mannerist (Late Renaissance) movement. His sobriquet, Bronzino, may be in reference to his comparatively dark skin or reddish hair. He lived all of his life in Florence, central Italy and became the court painter for Cosimo I Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. He mainly painted portraits, but would turn his hand to religious and allegorical themes. Arguably, his most famous work is “Venus, Cupid and Time”, painted in the early to mid 1540s, it now hangs in the National Gallery, London.
